What is American Humanics?
- AH is a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations dedicated to educating, preparing and certifying professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations.
What does “Humanics” mean?
- The original definition was “Spirit, Mind, and Body in Humanitarian Service.” It is a philosophy around education & student development. American Humanics took it one step further to mean “student development & education towards careers in nonprofit organizations.”
How Can You Get Certified?
- Demonstrate competency in 17 areas as indicated by American Humanics, Inc. Click here to view the competencies.
- Provide service to your community through participation in American Humanics Student Association (if UTSA student) OR other related work or volunteerism (if current nonprofit professional).
- Participate in an applied internship of at least 300 hours OR have work experience of at least 1 year in a nonprofit organization. Click here for the Student Internship Packet.
- Attend the American Humanics Management/Leadership Institute (AHMI) (if UTSA student) OR attend UTSA’s Summer Institute for Leadership and Stewardship (SILS) (if current nonprofit professional).
- Earn at least a Bachelor’s degree from any academic discipline in conjunction with the AH certification process.
- Register with UTSA's program online at www.humanics.org
