Dean, College of Public Policy
The University of Texas of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Public Policy. The College of Public Policy is located in downtown San Antonio which provides an ideal diverse and urban context for the research, teaching, and service activities of the departments in the college. The College of Public Policy includes four departments: Criminal Justice, Demography and Organization Studies, Public Administration, and Social Work. The college awards the B.A. in Criminal Justice, the M.S. in Justice Policy, Master of Public Administration, the Master of Social Work, and the Ph.D. in Applied Demography. Accreditations attained within the College of Public Policy include Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). Currently the college has 38 tenured/tenure track faculty, almost 800 undergraduate students, and over 350 graduate students. Also the college houses the Center for Policy Studies, the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research, and the Texas State Data Center.
Required Qualifications: Experience in and commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, scholarly research, and service. Demonstrated academic experience in varying levels of leadership in higher education including administration. Doctoral degree and credentials that would merit a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Professor in one of the disciplines in the college or a related public policy field.
Preferred Qualifications: Proven leadership in the development of premier programs of research and teaching in Public Policy or related areas. Demonstrated experience in urban and culturally diverse academic settings. Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the College of Public Policy to improve society’s capacity to anticipate and effectively respond to salient public policy issues. Proven managerial and administrative abilities that would enhance existing collegial relationships among faculty, staff, and students with the university and with local, regional, national and international communities. Demonstrated interpersonal communication, consensus-building, and decision-making skills. Proven capacity to procure resources and support for college activities, including fund raising. Demonstrated experience and success in developing and implementing university-community partnerships. An understanding of current and emerging issues and trends across public policy, including the globalization of education, research, and practice.
