THE CANSECO SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR LAREDO, TEXAS

  • Award: Number and amount of awards vary
  • Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used each year to provide a scholarship(s) equal to the cost of tuition and fees as determined by the FAFSA, or up to the amount of funds distributed annually from the endowment, whichever is lower. Initially, one scholarship per year will be awarded. As funding permits, additional recipients may be added.
  • Must have graduated from a high school in Laredo or Webb County, Texas, or must provide proof of residency in Laredo or Webb County, Texas, at the time of application.
  • Must be enrolled on a full-time basis and actively pursuing a degree within the College of Public Policy at UTSA or its successor.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate and 3.0 for graduate students (on a scale of 4.0).
  • Recipient(s) of the scholarship will be known as Canseco Scholars.

Department of Criminal Justice

BORDER PATROL AGENT RICARDO SALINAS CRIMINAL JUSTICE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Award: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used each year to provide scholarship(s) equal to the cost of the tuition and fees as determined by the FAFSA or up to the amount of funds distributed annually from the endowment, whichever is lower.
  • Must be in good standing with UTSA
  • Must be an undergraduate student classified as a junior or senior
  • Have Criminal Justice as their declared major
  • Must be enrolled on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 hours) as an undergraduate actively pursuing a degree at UTSA
  • Must not have been placed on academic suspension, probation or dismissal during the last 24 months
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must submit a typed personal statement (250-500 words double spaced) to identify personal and/or professional goals, the role of the scholarship in the attainment of these goals, contributions to UTSA, extracurricular activities, community involvement and any other information that may help the committee make a scholarship decision.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the UTSA Office of student Financial Aid.
  • Must not have been found guilty of a felony criminal conviction under the state of federal law
  • Must be a resident of Texas

COPP–THE USAA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • Award: The exact amounts awarded may vary by semester depending on availability of funds.
  • Must be in good standing with UTSA
  • Be an undergraduate student classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Have Criminal Justice as their declared major
  • Must be a full-time student (12 credit hours) during the scholarship semester
  • Must not have been placed on academic suspension, probation or dismissal during the last 24 months
  • Must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Must submit a typed personal statement ( 300-500 words double spaced) to identify personal and/or professional goals, the role of the scholarship in the attainment of these goals, contribution to UTSA, extracurricular activities, community involvement and any other information that may help the committee make a scholarship decision.
  • Must be a resident of Texas.

PRESIDENTIAL UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS: BACHELOR OF ARTS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

  • Must be in good standing with UTSA
  • Must be an undergraduate student classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Must have criminal justice as their declared major
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours during the scholarship semester
  • Must not have been placed on academic suspension, probation or dismissal during the last 24 months.
  • Must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Must submit a typed personal statement (300–500 words double spaced) to identify personal and/or professional goals, the role of the scholarship in the attainment of these goals, contributions to UTSA and any other information that may help the committee make a scholarship decision
  • Must be a resident of Texas

GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS: MASTER OF SCIENCE IN JUSTICE POLICY

  • Award: The exact amounts awarded may vary by semester depending on availability of funds Must be in good standing with UTSA
  • Must be in good standing with UTSA
  • Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking or special graduate student pursuing the Master of Science Degree in Justice Policy at UTSA
  • Must be enrolled in 9 or more credit hours of graduate coursework under the justice policy curriculum
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must submit a typed personal statement (300–500 words double spaced) to identify personal and professional goals, the role of the scholarship in the attainment of these goals, and any other information that may help the committee make a scholarship decision

DOMINION ROTARY CLUB PAST PRESIDENT’S FUND

  • Award: Number and amount of awards vary
  • Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships to be applied toward the cost of education at UTSA, as determined by the FAFSA. The number and amount of the awards shall be based on the amount of funds distributed annually from the endowment.
  • Must be enrolled as a graduate student in the College of Public Policy and actively pursuing a master’s or Ph.D. degree within the Department of Public Administration at UTSA or its successor
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0)
  • Recipient shall be known as the Dominion Rotary Scholar and will be invited to a luncheon meeting to describe their studies.
  • Deadline: Feb. 15

RUBÉN MUNGUÍA ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Award: Number and amount of awards vary
  • Must have been admitted to the graduate program in public administration in the College of Public Policy
  • Must enroll each semester in the academic year the scholarship is awarded for a minimum of 6 credit hours leading to their master’s degree
  • Students entering, continuing or returning to their UTSA master’s degree program will be eligible for the scholarship; the scholarship is renewable for up to two years after the initial award.
  • Selection of recipients will be made by a scholarship committee officially recognized by the Department of Public Administration.
  • Application requirements: Scholarship application, plus a one-page essay on their personal goals in pursuing the MPA, their career plans following after graduation and their current financial need
  • Deadline: Feb. 15

 SAN ANTONIO CITY EMPLOYEES FEDERAL CREDIT UNION TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

Name Change: Generations Community Federal Credit Union Tuition Scholarship [the bank has changed its name]

  • Award: Varies
  • Applicant must be a graduate student actively pursuing a degree in the Department of Public Administration at UTSA.
  • Award can only be used for tuition expenses.
  • Funds are distributed equally in fall and spring semester.
  • Recipients will be selected by a committee that is officially recognized by UTSA and appointed by the dean of the College of Public Policy.
  • Application requirement: Scholarship application, plus a one-page essay describing your professional goals and how the MPA degree and the Generations Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship will help in attaining those goals.
  • Deadline: Feb. 15

Department of Social Work

GUNN FAMILY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN SOCIAL WORK

  • Award: Varies
  • Must be a graduate student at UTSA actively pursuing a degree from the College of Public Policy in the Department of Social Work, or its successor
  • Must have, and maintain, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Applicants must complete the UTSA College of Public Policy Scholarship Application
  • This scholarship is not renewable; however, current and past recipients may reapply if they meet all minimum criteria.
  • Recipients will be selected by a committee officially recognized by the university and appointed by the dean of the College of Public Policy.
  • Notification of the recipients and their progress will be made in writing annually to the donor.
