Marcos Mullin, undergraduate of the Bachelor of Public Administration program and Carlo Garcia, a student pursuing his minor in Public Administration were both selected for internships in Washington, D.C. Marcos will be an intern under the Archer Fellowship Program, and Carlo will intern with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). A graduate student of the College’s MPA program Michael Stadelmaier will work as a paid intern for UT System’s Philanthropy Internship Program. The summer internship program is the first system-wide internship program in the nation for students interested in exploring a career in philanthropy.
Mullin will spend the spring 2020 semester as an Archer Fellow learning more about the legislative process and public service. The Archer Fellowship Program brings highly motivated and accomplished students to Washington, D.C. for a comprehensive academic and professional experience. Fellows intern full-time with an organization of their choosing based on their academic goals and interests. The program is highly competitive.
“I hope to gain professional experience working in Washington, D.C. and expand my network to include policy and legal professionals working in D.C.,” said Mullin. “My interests in policy and law would be amplified by participating in the Archer Fellowship program. I hope that during my internship, I will be able to grow professionally and academically to prepare for law school.”
Garcia will spend the summer semester in Washington, D.C. for the Congressional Internship Program while participating in weekly professional and leadership development and civic engagement through community service. CHCI interns meet Latino leaders dedicated to improving the Latino community.
Stadelmaier, who graduated with his undergraduate degree in Political Science from UTSA, will receive a curriculum-based learning experience to gain an understanding of fundraising in higher education.
“I am very thankful for the opportunity this internship provides,” stated Stadelmaier. “I am eager to see the aspects of higher education fundraising and translate the experience and skills into the public and non-profit sector. This internship opportunity is an insight into a field which I am unfamiliar with but wanting to learn more about.”
