Dr. Rogelio Sáenz featured on TPR’s The Source on ‘The Status of San Antonio Women’

Dr. Rogelio Sáenz, professor in the Department of Demography, was a participant on a panel with San Antonio Councilwomen Rebecca Viagran, Ana Sandoval, and Shirley Gonzales on the status of women in San Antonio. Sáenz and Master of Social Work recent graduate Lily Casura completed a 74-page report commissioned by the City of San Antonio that outlines the major challenges that women face across 13 dimensions: health and well-being, crime and violence, digital access, housing, work, education, economics, demographics, transportation, business entrepreneurship, civic engagement, elected political representation, and deaths of despair.  The researchers examined how women in San Antonio compare to women in Austin, Dallas and Houston. They also compared White, Latina, Black, and Asian women in San Antonio along these dimensions.

The panel discussed the possible root causes of these inequalities and how the findings can help shape local policy to improve the lives of women.
