About the hashtag #MeToo

Social activist Tarana Burke created the phrase "Me Too" in 2006 as part of the "empowerment through empathy" campaign for women of color in underprivileged communities who had been sexually abused. Actress Alyssa Milano encouraged use of the hashtag after accusations surfaced against Harvey Weinstein in 2017.
