The Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research (IDSER) is a comprehensive institute for the examination of the determinants and consequences of demographic change. Housed within IDSER is the Texas Demographic Center, a state entity, which distributes demographic, economic, and related data and information to private and public sector clients in Texas and other parts of the nation. The Texas Demographic Center directly serves more than 50,000 clients per year through a network of 45 affiliated agencies and provides services to an additional 4,500 clients per day who download more than two gigabytes of data each day from its website.
The Texas Demographic Center also produces annual population estimates for all places, counties, and the State of Texas, including population by age, sex, and race/ethnicity. Additionally, the TDC produces biennial projections of the population by age, sex, and race/ethnicity for Texas and all its counties. These estimates and projections are used by the Texas Legislature, Texas state agencies, and numerous other governmental and private sector entities to plan for personnel, facility, and fiscal requirements.
The faculty and staff members associated with the Institute also conduct grant and contract supported research on demographic and socioeconomic aspects of transportation, water, education, health related issues.
Our mission is to stimulate and support excellent social, demographic and economic science research on significant practice and policy issues.
